Abstract:	This presentation will demonstrate that the basic understanding of this Oracle supplied packages is instrumental to the success of the developer and DBA. DBMS_XPLAN is a utility that easily formats the contents of the explain plan. There are a variety of enhancements that assist the developer and DBA alike in determining how Oracle decided to execute a particular query. Some of the extensions that will be investigated are column projections, runtime statistics and reviewing plans for historic cursors.
