Sumit Sengupta , EDS    Biography

Objectives: ASM best practices for storage infrastructure
Lessons learned form DR with ASM instances
11g ASM new features.
Abstract: This presentation starts with introduction to ASM, comparison with its alternatives. Then ASM best practices for disks, lun management with diskgroup and failure groups, RAID, Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and use of multi-path software. Discussion on ASM initialization parameters, asmcmd and asm xml interface, file hierarchy. Example from real life on Oracle Rac on Linux using EMC SAN, dual HBA and ASMLIB. Complications with ASM and volume based replication line EMC's Timefinder.

11g new features – amscmd enhancements, fast mirror resync, new initialization parameters and interoperability with different versions of ASM and Oracle. Conversion of single instance to RAC ASM, new sysasm privilege, metadata backup, restore and its uses. Best practice for applying patches on ASM, database and clusterware. Coming up in future - rolling upgrades.
