Abstract: Building an intranet site with Oracle Portal in an Oracle-based environment brings Oracle Internet Directory (OID) to the forefront when considering a central location for employee information storage and retrieval. Since out-of-the-box Portal and OIDDAS interfaces allowing end-users to update information are not user-friendly and lack cohesiveness of design within a corporate intranet site, developing an application that retrieves information and updates OID is the obvious choice for a solution. Implementing the custom employee directory application as an Oracle Portal Custom Portlet developed against OID offers full control over the design and behavior of the user experience while allowing future extendibility to handle other requirements as they arise including links to third-party organization charts and instant messaging software. Presentation covers the process of application development within Oracle Portal against OID and implementation of custom attributes within.
