Abstract: | Career management is an often overlooked area for the technical professional. We get so caught up in our “bits and bytes” that we often forget to look past the present moment when it comes to our careers. Not everyone wants to become a CIO, CTO or CEO. Good career management, however, can help us become better technical professionals, as well as increase our income, open doors to opportunities, and improve the quality of our career and life. This presentation will cover the essential elements of implementing a career management plan. We’ll discuss setting appropriate career goals and timelines. We’ll talk about how to leverage education, training, and certifications in pursuit of our goals. We’ll discuss how to utilize networking, mentoring and career coaches in support of our career objectives. To help avoid “burnout,” we’ll discuss some time management and “leverage” tricks. We’ll wrap up by putting it all together in an overall “career management strategy.” |
