Objectives: Extend knowledge of Oracle Datdabase 11g new features for DBAs
Understand changes to Oracle Database 11g behavior compared to 10g
Understand SQL*Plus and PL/SQL changes useful for DBA
Abstract: When we talk or listen to Oracle Database 11g new features, mostly the topics covered are database replay, automatic memory management, result cache, flashback transaction and flashback data archive, Automatic Health Monitor, Snapshot standby, SQL Repair Advisor, etc. This short presentation will review the miscellaneous new features and changes to Oracle11g that would be of interest to DBA and are not widely discussed. We will discuss changes in behavior such as the passwords are now case sensitive, default location for alert log file, replacement variable for %_DUMP_DEST, read only tables, DDL lock timeout, shrink space taken by temporary tablespace, how to change the default 10% staleness for statistics collection, default automatic undo mode, adding column with default value, etc. We will also discuss some DBA views new to 11g, such as the DBA_TEMP_FREE_SPACE.
