Objectives: Learn how to migrate a single node database to a RAC cluster.
Learn how to use the DataPump to migrate the database to RAC.
Learn how to configure 11i for use in a RAC environment
Abstract: This case study examines the steps and issues encountered during a migration of Oracle Applications 11i to a Real Applications Cluster database. The architecure includes RAC, ASM, DataGuard and is extended by EMC Clarion utilities, SnapView and MirrorView, to decrease the time required for cloning and backups.

The DataPump was used to migrate the 11i database to a RAC cluster on Linux Release 4 Update 3, from a single node, 10.1.0.4, 32 bit database, to a 10.2.0.3 64 bit cluster.

An overview of the Real Applications Clusters, ASM, and Clusterware and how these technologies were utilized at Metro are described. RAC presents some implementation challenges and operational benefits.

The reasons why DataPump was selected and an overview of the DataPump tool will be explored.

Finally, we will cover configuring 11i for RAC including editing the tnsnames.ora and running adbldxml.pl.
