Objectives: Understanding the development of a RIA
Learn about a key component of RIA programming - REST data services
See how REST services are used to deliver data rich RIAs
Abstract: Rich Internet Applications (RIA) are in vogue. Users now demand highly interactive user interfaces in the browser. RIAs are a central piece of the phenomenon referred to as Web 2.0.

RIA developers must employ a toolbox of technologies such as Ajax, Dojo, Flex, and others to develop the interactive user interface. But an RIA offers little to the user unless it has access to server side data. This talk will address this problem.

In recent history, Web Services have been a popular approach to offering remote data services. services now need to be acccessible to JavaScript/Ajax in the browser where Web Services aren't an attractive option.

An approach called REST has surfaced as the next pattern for building distributed services. The session will describe what a REST service is, and show Ajax demos in action to demonstrate their value.
